  BOHOL ARTS OLYMPIAD March 8-9
In Celebration of National Arts Month
And International Women's Day



 

The Bohol Arts and Cultural Heritage (BACH) Council and the Center for Culture and Arts Development (CCAD) in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Bohol and the City Government of Tagbilaran proudly announce the Bohol Culminating Celebrations of the National Arts Month 2007. Tagged as the BOHOL OLYMPIAD OF THE ARTS, the programs also coincide with this year's celebration of Women's Day. This endeavor in the arts is being supported by the National Commission for Culture and Arts in collaboration with the Ayala Foundation, Globe Telecom, ICM Mall, BQ Mall and other local partners like BAHANDI, Hans Schoof, etc.

With this year's theme tagged as ANI NG SINING YAMAN NG LAHI, various cultural activities and competitions in the arts were organized since February 3. This month-long celebration raised awareness in Boholano Cultural Heritage and the Arts, developed the artistic skills of the youth and showcased the Boholano talent as a human resource for Bohol's Creative Industries.

This on-going celebration has exhibits and contests on dance, drama, music, visual arts and photography. After the elimination

round of the Drama Competition last February 23 at Cogon Elementary Schools, the following schools qualified for the Semi-finals: Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School, Holy Name University - High School, Mansasa High School, San Isidro High School and University of Bohol High School-Evening Session. All the competing schools will be performing the Visayan translated play "EYEBOL", originally written in Tagalog by Alfonso I. Dacanay. For the dance competition, the elimination round was conducted last February 27 at UB IRC. The two schools that qualified for the semi finals are Immaculate Mary Academy of Catigbian and Sacred Heart Academy of Loon. The SEMIFINALS FOR THE DANCE AND DRAMA COMPETITIONS will be conducted today, March 4 from 1:00-5:00 PM at BQ Atrium.

As part of the NAM activities, the CVSCAFT National Arts Month CULMINATING ACTIVITY EXHIBIT will be held on March 5, 3 PM at CVSCAFT-TCC. Then, there will be a concert by the internationally renowned UP MADRIGAL SINGERS on March 5, 8 PM at the HNU Gym. Also, there is an ongoing PAINTING EXHIBIT: Joyle Alipala's TRUE FORMS at the HNU Museum until March 15. On the other hand, the BOHOLANO FOLKLORE COMICBOOK WINNING ENTRIES will be displayed at the Provincial Library until March 8.

The FINALS FOR THE NAM BOHOL OLYMPIAD OF THE ARTS FOR KUNDIMAN, DANCE and DRAMA will be on March 8 7:00-10:00 PM at BQ Level 4 Carpark. The finalists for the Kundiman Contests for Category A (High school & College Level) are: Jesat Cathy Duce, Thomas Dasmariñas, Lizalie Hingpit, Alexander Tamsi and Marie Aleli Antoni. For Category B (professional level), the finalists are: Maria Fe Evelyn Tampos, Lylle Mae Cartajenas and Almira Tamsi.

The FINALS FOR THE BANGGA BANDA (Pop Bands) will be on March 9, 6:30-10:00 Pm at BQ Carpark. The band finalists for Category A (High School) are: BLITZKRIEG, Yellow Pad, Guts for Glory, WWJD, KUZCO, Unknown 92, Rag Dolls, Cracker Physics, Impound, Bruno's Tribe, Cluster Purok and Crusaders. For category B (College), the Bands that qualified are: CUPPEA, Cold stare, Vhounzala Guys, Brown Buds, Blurred Image, Suitcase 101, Unwanted Revenge, Anak ni Adan, Sky Flakes and COPA.

The original tragicomedy play, "KARAANG BALAY", will be shown on March 10, 7 PM at Malon Ancestral House as sponsored by the AYALA FOUNDATION. This play has proven to be a powerful and creative medium to raise awareness on the need to preserve our Boholano Cultural Heritage. It is penned by Boholano playwright director Alfred Valenzona, and is produced by the new TEATRO BOL-ANON, founded by theatre director Lutgardo Labad. KARAANG BALAY is mounted in cooperation with the Bohol Arts and Cultural Heritage Council Drama Committee, the Diwanag Dance Theatre of the Holy Name University, and BAHANDI or the Baclayon Ancestral Homeowners Association for Development.

Topbilled by young thespians Emmanuel Boc (Teamates hiphop leader), Katrina Badiang (Bohol Teen Theatre alumna), and Clyde Ebojo (Dauis parish youth leader), KARAANG BALAY dramatizes the plight of a couple conflicted by the task to preserve their ancestral house vis a vis the need for economic survival and calls for development. An adult senior cast gathered from the original Teatro Bol-anon will be performing in a senior version and includes Jerameel Decasa, Nila Itac, Leonora Rama, ad Rodolfo Cuhit. A prelude and a postlude feature a nostalgic dance and song with music and lyrics created by Clyde Ebojo, Dancers include Girlie Montajes, Jae Michelle Gulle, Juvy Jane Tongco, and Calvin Saban. Lights design and Technical Direction is by Jerameel Decasa, Sounds and Stage management by Franz Van Dongen, Design by Francis Sarmiento, Jacky Curambao and Eric Catot, Choreography by Nila Itac.
